Ghosts & Spirits

I'm a horror writer. Nothing would make me happier than to think that there really are ghosts and spirits and things that go bump in the night. Whether they're harmless or out to kill you, ghosts are a major staple in literature, and that's the way it should be.

The problem is when they come out of the novels and movies and people start to claim it really happens. Again, I'd love to believe. But my experience has shown that all these hauntings are just stories made up by business owners to attract people like...well, people like me.

I don't care if you're the most rational person in the world. There's something spooky about reading THE SHINING up at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado (the hotel that inspired Stephen King to write The Shining). And that's the way it should be.

But until someone offers some real evidence, ghosts, like all other paranormal phenomena, belong in fiction, not in the real world.
